A pair of Swifts has been looking at and into two of our boxes over the last couple of days.

This morning one of them entered a box and stayed, which is great news. The pair should now start getting nesting material on the wing. This box was used a few years ago so there may still be the residue of the last nest to add to.

The female normally lays her eggs early in the morning, they normally have 2-3 white eggs. There will be a few days gap between each egg being laid, the weather will determine the length of the gap; poor weather results in a longer gap as she may be unable to feed properly and could affect the number. Incubation normally starts once the clutch of eggs is complete.

While watching the Swifts we noticed a Grey Wagtail by our pond. (NC/DC)
