We went for a brief walk this afternoon down the track leading to Rye Farm and very productive it was too, with 32 species recorded in just about an hour, in which we had lovely sun, a heavy squall and a rainbow thrown in as well! Pride of place went to our first Fieldfare of the winter zooming out of a hedge followed by about half-a-dozen Redwing. A Kestrel hovered close to us and on the pools were quite a few ducks which were mostly Mallard, but there were also a couple each of Wigeon and Gadwall plus a single Pintail. A pair of Stonechat were sitting on posts, a couple of Chiffchaffs called, and on the pools along the track was a delightfully colourful Grey Wagtail. There were two seperate feeding flocks and in both Long-tailed Tits and Blue Tits were the dominant species, one of them included a Goldcrest as well. (MR/LM)
