Welcome to the Henfield Birdwatch website. We are a group with an interest in birds and wildlife in general. We welcome people whatever their birding knowledge. We have group walks, talks, meet regularly for lunch and some people like to share their sightings online.
We aim to ensure that Henfield remains a great place for birds and some of our members like to become more involved by
regularly surveying and monitoring the local bird population and species
helping Henfield residents to be aware of our local birds and how to help them flourish
If this sounds interesting and you would like to join us you would be warmly welcomed.

Guess who has young ones! Yes you guessed, it’s the Starlings. They are red listed though, so glad they’ve been making good use of the nest box. (LS) 28th April 2022
As I was sitting by the fishing lakes yesterday I could see the Canada Goose lying low on her nest I thought to myself that the eggs are due to hatch next week. That is providing nothing untoward happens, there is still a group of up to nine Greylag and Canadian Geese hanging around the area, probably none breeding birds…
Woods Mill and stream
A short visit late afternoon produced a couple of Reed Warblers in the Woods Mill reserve. Both heard. One eventually seen in the depths of the reeds south of the Mill pond.
This year the pair of Mute Swans are nesting within the Mill Pond rather than by the footpath as previously.
A Green Woodpecker spent a lot of time this morning pecking away under my hornbeam tree in Fawn Rise

Woods Mill & my garden
I had a wander around Woods Mill last evening, and in addition to the Mute Swans, Coots and Moorhens, there was 'The Odd Couple'. A Canada Goose and a Greylag who appeared to have definitely formed a partnership. I failed to photograph them together largely because the Cob Swan was doing his best to get rid…
A touch of the Med
Blimey, coffee on the balcony this morning and a flock of gulls flew up from The Levels flying east. They were calling which revealed that they were Mediterranean Gulls, 19 of them! (MR) 17th April 2022
