Some nice sightings from the balcony over the weekend. On Friday, a Green Woodpecker came right up close to the backdoor and it was lovely to see one so close up. Also, a male Reed Bunting briefly visited the feeders which I’ve never seen at this time of year before.

On Saturday, we were enjoying a coffee when we picked up a Sparrowhawk circling at least 200 metres above the garden when it suddenly folded it’s wings and stooped Peregrine like at the bird feeder, scattering birds everywhere but was unsuccessful despite a fantastic effort. Sunday the highlight was a Red Kite cruising over the back of the garden while this morning we were treated to close-up Hummingbird Hawkmoth feeding on the jasmine flowers. (MR)
