Just a personal observation but it seems to have been quite a successful breeding year for some of our garden birds so far this year. Youngsters of four tit species, Blue, Great, Coal and Long-tailed have all visited the feeders while young of Robin, Dunnock and Blackbird are scrabbling about at the bottom, picking up the crumbs. Both Gold and Greenfinches have also brought young to the feeders as well, as has a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers that have raised a single chick. Sadly, we’re not sure what happened to the Wrens who were busy nest building before we went off to Scotland in mid-May.
Other recent visitors to the feeders includes a regular Nuthatch and Song Thrush while a pair of Bullfinches popped in a couple of times over the weekend. (MR)
