I had a day in the field yesterday – or rather several different fields! I wanted to show Laura that we do have a few birds in Henfield, so we walked along the Mill Stream this morning.  We had good views of Yellowhammer, Linnet and Reed Bunting, and heard plenty of Chiffchaffs and a Blackcap.  The wet patch had a pair of Teal, two Shoveler and a Gadwall and on our way back both a Grey Heron and Little Egret flew in. The air was full of Skylark song, a Little Egret was sitting in the heronry trees, and a Lapwing flew over. Also on the return leg a Cetti’s Warbler gave a single brief burst of song.

This afternoon Sam was kindly showing me round her fields near New Inn when we heard a Curlew calling as it flew north along the river. (VB)
