I was short of time this morning so it was a shorter walk than usual,  but with a clatter of wings against twigs a Woodcock appeared, the fourth sighting I have seen on in the area. A quick stop at the lakes to see how things were there, four Canada Geese, one Moorhen and three Mallard. Walking along the hedge lined track back home when a call overhead made me think, Heron but no it was the Egyptian Goose pair. They landed by the pond and called out with a different sound. Since I have had a an interest in our local pair I have heard them make many sounds, none of which I have found in any references. (JP)
